Gus Hansen enjoyed a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to make it to the last table in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. He won a large pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the best players anywhere in the world. While wagering on web poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. Gus often plays in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Gus generally buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He waits for a good hand and then goes all in. I know Hansen is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless he is flat broke, he has little or no reason to settle at the game with the min buy-in.

Buying in for the minimum takes a majority of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be one of the best players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the total dollar value. I believe tv can alter our perception of the real world every now and then. The best players anywhere in the world may be guys you have never heard of before. Gus can be seen wagering on web poker on Full Tilt. He commonly participates in big stakes Omaha and hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he use his talents in cash rounds?
