Gus Hansen enjoyed an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only player to achieve closing game in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. Gus won a big pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has earned many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest gamblers in the world. While gambling on net poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. Gus frequently participates in the 200/400 NL max buy in of $40, 000. Hansen more often than not buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then pushes all in. I believe Gus is an outstanding poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless he is broke, he has absolutely no reason to settle at the table with the minimum buy in.
Playing for the min takes almost all of the ability out of deep stack poker. Hansen is presumed to be one of the greatest poker players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy in for the total amt.. I think tv can skew our view of the real world at times. The best players anywhere in the world could be guys you have won’t have heard of before. Gus can be seen betting on online poker on Full Tilt. He usually plays in high stakes omaha hold’em and texas hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he use his skills in cash games?
