Gus Hansen had an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to make it to the last poker table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may remember one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He raked in a large pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the best players anywhere in the world. While gambling on online poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. He frequently participates in the 200/400 NL max buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus more often than not buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I know Gus is an amazing poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless he is broke, he has absolutely no reason to settle at the table with the min buy in.
Buying in for the min takes almost all of the skill out of deep stack poker. Gus is presumed to be 1 of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the total dollar value. I think television can alter our perception of the real world at times. The best players in the world might be guys you have will not have heard of. Gus can be seen wagering on web poker on Full Tilt. He generally competes in big stakes omaha eight-or-better and texas hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his abilities in cash games?
