Gus Hansen experienced an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only player to make it to the closing table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might recall one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. Gus secured a big pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the greatest enthusiasts in the world. While betting on net poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. He often competes in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen more often than not buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then goes all-in. I believe Hansen is an outstanding poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless he is broke, he has no reason to play at the game with the min buy-in.
Buying in for the minimum takes a majority of the expertise out of big stack poker. Hansen is presumed to be 1 of the best poker players in the world but he can’t buy in for the total dollar value. I think television can alter our perception of the real world every now and then. The best poker players in the world might just be players you have won’t have heard about. Gus can be found competing in internet poker on Full Tilt. He generally competes in big stakes omaha high and Holdem. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he use his abilities in cash rounds?
