Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender on the globe by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His papa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover everything he could about the game. Phil routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the detrimental feedback from others destroy his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker players on the planet.
Phil began competing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching experience and winning wasn’t a common outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated a number of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an undying love for the game of poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his success. He knows he makes blunders every single game of poker and always aspires to improve.
Although Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he likes winning money games on a normal basis.
