Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only one to achieve final poker table in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He raked in a huge pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Gus has earned many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the best gamblers anywhere in the world. While playing web poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. Gus frequently participates in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus usually buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He waits for a decent hand and then goes all in. I accept that Gus is an outstanding poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is flat broke, he has no reason to sit at the table with the min buy in.
Playing for the minimum takes most of the skill out of big stack poker. Hansen is accepted to be 1 of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the full amount. I think tv can alter our view of the real world at times. The best players in the world may be guys you have never heard about. Gus can be seen betting on net poker on Full Tilt. He generally participates in big stakes omaha hold’em and hold’em. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his abilities in cash games?
