Gus Hansen had an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only player to achieve closing table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might recall one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a massive pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has earned many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the strongest gamblers anywhere in the world. While playing web poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. He regularly plays in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus frequently buys in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then goes all in. I believe Hansen is an outstanding poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless he is broke, he has no reason to play at the game with the min buy-in.

Playing for the min takes almost all of the skill out of big stack poker. Gus is presumed to be one of the greatest players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the total dollar value. I believe television can skew our perception of the real world at times. The greatest poker players in the world might just be guys you have will not have heard about. Gus can be seen wagering on web poker on Full Tilt. He commonly competes in high stakes Omaha and Holdem. Gus has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he use his talents in cash games?
