Howard Lederer lived in a family of 5 where he liked betting on numerous card games at a young age. He discovered himself getting very competitive in these card games while playing his dad. After graduating from high school, Howard made a decision to place college on hold for a little bit and relocated to New York City to participate in some serious chess. While participating in chess, he was brought in to a poker game taking place in the back of the room. Howard’s initial 2 years were rough as he played countless hours and fail to win most times. He earned some additional money by being an runner for the poker enthusiasts. He judged he possibly could boost his game by analyzing his life away from poker. He made an attempt to get more sleep and concentrate even more on poker.
The definite improvement in his game happened when he started betting at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the the most favorable players would often challenge each other. Howard had access into several of the greatest minds in chess. With their help, he would hone his logical thinking skills. Howard used these strategy ideas in the game of NL Texas Holdem.
He also helped his sister Annie Duke learn the game of poker. Annie Duke was an excellent student of poker as she constantly asked questions about the right way to make the correct decision. Howard Lederer told Annie to move out to Sin City and compete in the WSOP tournaments. Annie Duke is one of the best female players the poker arena has ever seen. Howard moved to Vegas in 1993 and played money games for the successive 10 years. When the WPT grew in popularity, Howard decided to compete in more tournaments.
