Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender on the globe by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup whatever he could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the detrimental comments from other people annihilate his ambition of being one of the greatest poker players in the world.

Phil started playing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching period and winning was not a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing love for the game of poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is very abashed about his achievements. He admits to making errors in each session of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Even though Ivey has won some large tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a regular basis.
