Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker player on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather introduced him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to learn whatever he could about poker. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the negative feedback from others destroy his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.
He started playing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching opportunity and winning wasn’t a normal thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an undying passion for the game of poker. He states that he is learning every single day and is very humble about his success. Phil admits to making errors every single game of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a regular basis.
