Gus Hansen enjoyed an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only player to make it to the last table in three of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a massive pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest players around the world. While wagering on web poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. Gus often competes in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus generally buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I know Gus is a great poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless he is bankrupt, he has no reason to sit at the table with the minimum buy in.
Buying in for the minimum takes almost all of the skill out of deep stack poker. Gus is supposed to be 1 of the best poker players in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full amount. I think television can skew our perception of the real world every now and then. The greatest players in the world might be guys you have will not have heard about. Gus can be seen participating in internet poker on Full Tilt. He commonly plays in big stakes omaha eight-or-better and texas holdem. Gus has shown himself as a competition player. Can he back up his talents in money games?
