Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only gambler to achieve last poker table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen won a big pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest players anywhere in the world. While participating in internet poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. Gus regularly competes in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of $40, 000. Gus more often than not buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and gambles very weak. He waits for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I know Gus is a great poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is bankrupt, he has little or no reason to settle at the table with the min buy-in.

Playing for the min takes almost all of the ability out of deep stack poker. Hansen is accepted to be 1 of the best players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full amt.. I think television can alter our view of the real world sometimes. The best poker players anywhere in the world might just be guys you have never heard of before. Gus can be found gambling on web poker on Full Tilt. He commonly competes in high stakes Omaha and hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he use his talents in cash rounds?
