Howard Lederer lived in a family of five where he enjoyed participating in numerous card games at a young age. He found himself getting really aggressive in the above-mentioned card games while playing his father. After graduating from Sr. High school, Howard made a decision to place higher education on hold for a bit and headed to New York City to participate in some big-time chess. While playing chess, he was brought in to a poker game taking place in the back of the room. Howard’s initial two years were difficult as he played many hours and fail to win a majority of the time. He earned some extra money by being an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He believed he possibly could boost his game by balancing his life away from poker. He made an effort to acquire more rest and focus more on the game.
The real improvement in his skills happened when he began wagering at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the best gamblers would frequently wager against one another. He was able to access a number of the best minds in chess. With their assistance, Howard Lederer would tweak his logical thinking skills. He used these strategic ideas in the game of No-Limit holdem.
He also helped his sibling Annie Duke master the game of poker. Annie was a superb student of the game as she would consistently be asking questions about how to make the proper choice. Howard Lederer told Annie to move out to Sin City and play in the WSOP tournaments. Annie Duke is one of the greatest women players the poker world has ever seen. Howard moved to Las Vegas in 1993 and played money games for the following 10 years. When the WPT grew in popularity, he decided to participate in more tournaments.
