Do you ever get that itch? The itch to gamble, to head to the nearest gambling establishment, to locate a high stakes game of Hold’em, to sit at a Twenty-one table for hours on end. I really like that itch. And I really like to scratch it.
I also really like to watch individuals bet. No two poker faces seem alike. When I wager I like to think I put on a poker face which is impassable. Except I know I’ve specific personal habits. For one, the only time I smoke cigarettes is when I play poker or Blackjack. And then I smoke. But I smoke no matter whether I am winning or losing, whether I’ve a excellent hand or bad.
I once played within a weekly poker game. The casino game was constantly 5 card draw. There was a gentleman who played with us each and every week who always wore a hat. When he was dealt a beneficial hand, subconsciously, he would begin touching and playing with his hat. Needless to say, he in no way won.
The very best poker player I ever saw was a gentleman who made far more movements and gestures at a poker table than anybody I had ever seen. He was impeccable in the way he dressed. Always an costly suit and tie, shoes shined and nails manicured. He was fastidious in this manner. And he was constantly brushing his pants or holding his hands or putting his chips in neat little piles.
I use to examine him for long periods of time. I’d attempt to see if I could spot his tell. Selecting fuzz off his jacket- did this mean he was bluffing? Stacking his chips in a very short pile – did this mean he had a very good hand?
Many years later I ran into him inside a bar in Boston and we had a beer. I asked him if he had been aware of all those actions he produced or if they were subconscious. He informed me that just about every single thing he did at a poker table was deliberate. He said that everyone is always checking out everyone else’s poker face. They are trying to spot the the tell.
So his program was to provide them lots to feel about. His reasoning was if they were thinking about him choosing a piece of lint off his shirt and what it meant they sure were not thinking about their cards.
His process was distraction. And it worked for him. By no means give up a method that functions for you.
