Recently, I received a question from one of my students. It stated, "What exactly is pot probabilities and is Texas holdem pot odds system worth pursuing?"
One issue to remember, any kind of Texas hold’em odds can and usually do have really confusing. However, let me break pot probabilities down in very uncomplicated terms. Please note that we are only discussing Pot Odds. Not outs, implied odds, easy odds or something else like that.
In short, pot odds are the odds you get when determining the ratio of the amount of money in the pot to the quantity of money it is going to cost you to call the bet.
For example, let us say you’re heads up with Gambler A. If there is $150.00 in the pot following the flop and Player A places a $20 bet it will price you only 13 per-cent of the pot to stay in the hand. If your likelihood of winning is greater than thirteen % it is a no-brainer to call because you’d probably have good pot odds.
That is all there would be to it really. Texas hold’em pot odds boils down to one issue. If your chance of winning is greater than the ratio of the pot size to the wager then you could have beneficial pot odds. If it’s lower than you’ve got bad pot odds.
One additional thought about Hold’em pot odds. You’re still betting the player far more so than something else. Wager on the gambler much more than your starting hands or the size of the chip stack and even, yes the pot odds.
If you are able to learn to read your opponents well you can utilize pot odds to aid justify or solidify your conclusion. Except Holdem pot probabilities do not need to be an end all whenever you make a poker choice.
Knowing and understanding how Hold’em pot odds work may be a useful and successful strategy. Except again don’t make Hold’em pot probabilities your only method.
