Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is frequently seen as one of the most difficult but popular poker games. It is a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites action from every level of players. This is the chief reason why a once invisible variation, has increased in popularity so amazingly.

Omaha 8 or better begins just like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are handed out to every player. A sequence of betting follows where players can wager, check, or drop out. 3 cards are dealt out, this is known as the flop. Another sequence of betting ensues. Once all the gamblers have in turn called or folded, another card is flipped on the turn. an additional round of betting happens and then the river card is revealed. The players must attempt to make the strongest high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is the point where a number of players often get confused. Contrasted to Texas Hold ‘Em, in which the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi lo the player has to utilize exactly three cards from the board, and precisely two cards from their hand. No more, no less. Contrary to regular Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot could be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It’s the strongest possible hand out of every player’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house. It is the same approach in almost every poker game.

A low hand is more difficult, but really free’s up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. A low hand is the weakest hand that might be made, with the lowest value being A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and lower. The low hand takes half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there is no low hand presented, the higher hand wins the whole pot.

Although it seems complex at first, following a few hands you will be agile enough to pick up on the fundamental subtleties of the game with ease. Seeing as you have individuals wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and since such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha 8 or better offers an exciting assortment of wagering options and owing to the fact that you have numerous players trying for the high, as well as several trying for the low. If you prefer a game with all kinds of outs and actions, it is worth your time to compete in Omaha hi low.
